About Clare
I've been a counselor for eleven years, the last six in private practice. Before that I worked at a university counseling center, where I sat with a lot of people in the middle of big changes.
In sessions I'm warm and fairly direct. I'll ask questions, notice patterns out loud and, when it helps, give you something small to try between sessions. You set the pace. Nothing about your story has to be tidy before you come in.
Training and license
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), State of Michigan
- M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
- Trained in CBT and ACT, two well-studied approaches for anxiety
- Ongoing consultation group for anxiety and perinatal care
My approach
Understand it first. Anxiety makes sense once we see what it's trying to protect. We map that out together.
Then practice. Small, doable changes in how you respond to worry, tried in real life and talked through the next week.
Keep what works. As things ease, we space sessions out. The goal is that you need me less.
The office and video sessions

The office is a quiet second-floor room near downtown Ann Arbor, five minutes from a bus stop, with street parking out front. There's a small waiting area with tea.
Video sessions run through a secure, private video service. You get a link by email. All you need is a quiet room and a phone or laptop. I can see clients by video anywhere in Michigan.
